Blogmas 2017 is officially over, and I have to say, I learned quite a bit! I thought it might be fun to do a review of my experience participating in Blogmas, what I learned, what I loved, and what I struggled with.
Blogmas is a Christmas tradition that some bloggers participate in where they post a Christmas or Holiday themed post each day from December first until Christmas. I thought it sounded like a lot of fun, and like a good way to get back into a rhythm with my blogging. I took a fairly long (in the blogging world) break after my Father died on September 25, and I believed Blogmas would be the ideal way to jump in with both feet.
“How hard could it be?” I thought? Hundreds of bloggers, probably more, do it. Surely I could too. I brainstormed ideas, and had many that I loved. Actually, I was bursting with ideas: gift guides on every subject imaginable, traditions, recipes, kids activities, and more. I made a list. I was excited!
Here’s where we come to the part about what I learned! First, most bloggers who participate in Blogmas start planning (and even writing) their posts months in advance. I literally decided to do Blogmas 2017 on November 29. Not my best work.
Second, I now more fully understand that writing, polishing, choosing photos for, and promoting a blog post every single day is EXHAUSTING!! Cheers to those amazing bloggers who can do it, but I fell a bit short. I published 17, not 25 posts. To be honest, while I wasn’t technically successful, I am really freaking proud of myself!! 17 posts in 25 days is definitely a record for me! My readership increased dramatically, and I had fun. I’m putting it in the “win” column regardless.
Third, it dawned on me that maybe December is not a great time for me to push myself to post each day because…well…Christmas. Lots to do that had nothing to do with blogging!
Finally, I learned how much I love creating this blog. I adore you, my readers, and I am SO grateful for the support you have shown me here, on social media, and in the lovely emails you’ve sent me. It all means more than I could ever adequately express!
Blogmas 2017 was…an adventure! I hope you enjoyed the posts I created, and I hope that your Holiday season was magical!
Much love, P
